HELPFUL HINTS FOR SUPER EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

I like the texture of this chocolate mousse after it sits out of the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.

Use your favorite chocolate chips, whether milk, semi-sweet, or dark, or your favorite chocolate bar. This will be the dominant flavor of the dessert.

I add just a bit of butter for added luxurious texture and flavor.

When making the whipped cream, be sure to add the vanilla AFTER whipping the mixture to stiff peaks.

When making the whipped cream, remember that half of it is for the mousse and half of it is for topping the mousse.

Equipment

  • Handheld electric mixer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Silicone spatula

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CHOCOLATE
  • 1 teaspoon Butter
  • 1 cup Milk chocolate, semi sweet chocolate chips, or dark or a shredded chocolate bar of your choice
  • 1/2 cup Heavy whipping cream
  • FOR THE WHIPPED CREAM & WHIPPED TOPPING
  • 2 cups Heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large microwave safe mixing bowl, combine the butter, chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream. Slowly heat the mixture in the microwave in 20 to 30 second increments, mixing after each cycle, until the mixture is melted and smooth. Do not overheat. Set the mixture aside and let cool to room temperature.
  • In another large bowl, add the heavy whipping cream and, using an electric mixer, start on low and gradually increase to high until stiff peaks form. This should only take a couple minutes. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and mix just long enough to combine.
  • Separate the whipped cream in half. Place half in the refrigerator to use as a topping on the mousse. The other half will get folded into the chocolate mixture.
  • Once the chocolate mixture has cooled, use a silicone spatula to fold half the whipped cream mixture into the chocolate mixture. Fold until well combined.
  • When the mousse mixture is fully combined, transfer to a pretty bowl, or individual dessert dishes. When ready to serve, top with the prepared and refrigerated whipped cream. Garnish with chocolate chips, or chocolate shavings, if desired.
