I don’t know about you, but I am not the biggest fan of bottled dressings. At one time in my life I used them all the time, but as I have grown in my culinary skills and experimented with making homemade dressings, I like the bottled ones less and less and love my homemade dressings more and more. This Creamy Homemade Ranch Dressing is no exception. As a matter of fact, it is one of my favorites.

Many people, it seems, feel intimidated by the idea of making a homemade dressing. In reality, homemade dressings are really pretty easy to make. To make it even better, most can be made in a matter of minutes!

Since I use mostly dried herbs and spices in this recipe, you probably already have most, if not all, of these on hand already!

HELPFUL HINTS FOR CREAMY HOMEMADE RANCH DRESSING

In my household, we don’t drink a lot of buttermilk. Don’t get me wrong, I love buttermilk, but only a specific kind. Growing up in California, I had access to Knudsen’s buttermilk. It actually had tiny little pieces of real butter in it. OMGosh, it was so good. But, sadly, I do not have access to that brand any longer. You better believe that when I do go visit my family I indulge in it every single time! And, their cottage cheese…it is like no other!

So, all that to say, instead of buying a container of buttermilk to make ranch dressing, knowing the rest of the carton is going to sit and spoil, I have opted to buy powdered buttermilk. I got the Hoosier Hill Farm brand from Amazon. It keeps in the pantry for a very long time and works perfectly for this recipe. You can, also, use powdered buttermilk for other things like homemade buttermilk pancakes. And, the container lasts a very long time, so I always have it on hand. If you cannot find powdered buttermilk at your local grocery store, you can find it on Amazon.

This recipe makes about 3 cups of dressing, so I often double the recipe in order to have some extra in the refrigerator

This dressing will pair perfectly with my Homemade Italian Croutons.

If you’d like something with a southwest flair, try adding some taco seasoning to your ranch. That would actually go great with my Southwest salad, which I will be posting soon. Keep an eye out…
